A través de un tono desgarrador y alentador al mismo tiempo, esta novela gráfica con ilustraciones hermosas y elementos de realismo mágico retrata el fortalecimiento que surge tras haber superado episodios de violencia de género y de raza y haber logrado hacer escuchar su voz.

No quiero develar nada más porque quiero que experimenten el mismo remolino emocional por el que pasé yo mientras leía esta historia tan importante.

Esta es una hermosa novela gráfica en blanco y negro y "muda" llena de ilustraciones tiernas, particularmente los dos personajes principales. Seguimos al protagonista en una misión: encontrar gemas de colores para un fin inesperado que se revela en la última página. El concepto temático del blanco y negro mudo me hizo acordar mucho a Emigrantes de Shaun Tan y a White Collar de Giacomo Patri (enlace a la reseña más abajo). Sin embargo, es muy diferente a ambos dos. Me muero de ganas de conseguir la segunda parte de la serie: Lost. The protagonist is on a quest to gather some colored gems for a surprising reason that is revealed in the last page. Being in black and white and wordless, it reminded me a lot of the Arrival by Shaun Tan and White Collar by Giacomo Patri (review link below), being different at the same time. I'm dying to get my hands on the second one of the series: Lost. Twilight Zone: Shadow & Substance (La dimensión desconocida: sombra y sustancia)

Antes que nada  quiero destacar que me enamoré de las páginas introductorias a cada capítulo. Tienen unas hermosas páginas en blanco y negro de estilo vintage que son reminiscentes al show de los años 60. Es increíble cómo lograron mantener el tono y la atmósfera del programa y darle una nueva perspectiva a conceptos que se hicieron en el show  uniéndolos con temáticas actuales. Las ilustraciones son hermosas y están pensadas específicamente para cada historia.  Debo confesar que las historias que menos me gustaron fueron las que no escribió Mark Rehner. Mis preferidas fueron: The Secret Over-Sharer. una activista anti tecnología aprende una lección acerca de lo que realmente significa estar "desconectada" anti-tech advocate learns what it really means to be off the grid. Un par de citas:  * "Ya no nos satisface el solo hecho de HACER algo o EXPERIMENTAR algo nosotros mismos. Es como si nada EXISTIERA para nosotros si no lo publicamos o compartimos". * "[...] No necesitas las redes sociales para vivir tu vida. Experiméntla por tu cuenta". It's All In How You Frame It. Un millonario solitario tiene una nueva perspectiva de cómo es el mundo en realidad y cuál es la verdadera esencia de las personas. They've done a wonderful job keeping its the tone and atmosphere, as well as revisiting and reimagining older themes and situations in addition to tackling more current ones as well. The illustrations are amazing and, more importantly, perzonalized to each story. I have to say that the stories I liked the least were the ones that were not written by Mark Rehner. My favorites were: The Secret Over-Sharer. An anti-tech advocate learns what it really means to be "off the grid". Some quotes:  * "We're not satisfied just DOING anything or EXPERIENCING anything ourselves anymore. It's like nothing EXISTS for us if we don't post something about it or share it." * "[...] You don't need social media to live your life. Experience it for yourself." It's All In How You Frame It. A solitary millionaire literally gets a view of the world and the true essence of people. White Collar - Giacomo Patri

Esta es una reedición del una de las primeras novelas gráficas (1940 ) que se realizaban mediante linograbado (un proceso extenso y complicado). Muda, esta novela retrata una época y, al mismo tiempo, expresa un mensaje  social a través del arte. Está incluido un recuento de la vida de Patri en el que se habla de que no terminó la escuela primaria. No obstante, fue un autodidacta muy inteligente y culto (era bien versado en arte, filosofía y política). Giacomo creó esta increíble novela para contribuir con el movimiento sindicalista, valiéndose del contraste entre las vidas de los trabajadores de clase media y las de los de clase baja. Más adelante inauguró una escuela de arte dirigida a la clase trabajadora para que pudieran disfrutar del arte como una experiencia liberadora y una distracción de la vida obrera. En este caso es verdad que "una imagen dice más que mil palabras" (o incluso más). Les dejo dos linograbados (también hay en blanco y negro en el libro). Agrego, además mi traducción de una descripción sacada de la introducción de 1940. "Ilumina la oscuridad de la represión; resuelve las disonancias trágicas; y resucita la muerte del sentido del hogar". It was one of the first graphic novels ever made and it was crafted through linocuts (a complicated and lengthy process). Wordless, it portrays an epoch by expressing a social message through art.  We are given background of Patri's life and times where we learn that he didn't finish primary school but was an extremely intelligent and cultured man. He was self taught on art (at first), architecture, philosophy and politics.  Giacomo created this greatly autobiographical novel to contribute to the union movement, contrasting the lives of middle class and lower class workers at the time. Later on, he opened an art school aimed at working people. The purpose was for them to enjoy art as a liberating experience and as a distraction from everyday labor life. In this case, a picture is definitely worth a thousand words—or more. I'll leave some linocuts (there are black and white ones as well) and a description from the 1940 introduction: "Into the darkness of depression it throws light; the tragic dissonances it resolves; and to the dead of home it brings resurrection."
